Newcastle forward expresses disappointment after poor start

Newcastle United frontman Yoshinori Muto has revealed his disappointment after the club’s poor start to the campaign.

Muto, who arrived from Mainz in the summer, was expecting a better start to life in the North East but has insisted there’s still time to change their fortunes;

“I didn’t imagine we would start the season like this and I feel sorry for the supporters,

“We still have time to turn things around. We really need the three points against Southampton.”

Newcastle's most recent loss was a frustrating 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Brighton. Muto has regrets about the result but felt they started the game well.

"In the match against Brighton we started as the better team but we lost 1-0. I deeply regret this result. However, I feel that we are improving as a team and that I can make a positive contribution.”

It's all well and good improving as a team, but Newcastle are desperate for their first win of the season. Saturday's meeting with Southampton is huge six-pointer - even if it is just the tenth game of the season. The Magpies are already three points adrift of escaping the relegation zone and they can't afford for that gap to increase.

Find out if Newcastle can pick up their first three points of the season as they take on Southampton at St Mary's from 3pm on Saturday.
