Sunderland winger completes switch to Turkey
Jeremain Lens has completed his move to Turkish side Besiktas after the Black Cats sealed a deal worth £6 million for the Dutchman.
Lens joined Sunderland in August 2015 netted just four goals during his spell on Wearside having been signed by Dick Advocatt for 12 million, however the 30-year-old fell out of favour under Sam Allardyce at the Stadium of Light.
Lens has been out on loan since last summer having only played for Sunderland in their pre-season Championship campaign, and the deal to Besiktas included an option to make the move a permanent one.
When joining Sunderland, Lens was a big money signing, joining for £12 million from Dynamo Kyiv and was one of the many big earners Sunderland currently had on their books along with Jack Rodwell and Wahbi Khazri.
Lens will now officially join up with the Süper Lig side on June 1.
A statement on Sunderland AFC website stated:
“Sunderland AFC can confirm that midfielder Jeremain Lens will join Besiktas JK permanently on June 1st for an undisclosed fee. The 30-year-old has spent the season on loan with the Turkish Super Lig side, who have now exercised an option to sign the attacker permanently.”
Lens posted on his twitter account:
“Thanks for everything! I wish the club all the best for the future.”
