Pools weigh up move for former manager

Hartlepool are weighing up a move for former manager Ronnie Moore, but it has been reported that Moore would only be brought in as an assistant to current caretaker Matthew Bates who would remain in the role.

Bates was in the dugout alone for the weekend defeat against Ebsfleet United as goalkeeper coach Bernie Hirmer was in Germany dealing with a personal issue and assistant Paul Jenkins was granted leave so Bates has been left with just youth team staff for help.

Bates has called upon former Middlesbrough teammate Ross Turnbull and former Sunderland academy manager Ged McNamara for support.

However Bates is keen to bring in a third coach, and Moore is thought to be an option. Club president Jeff Stelling has even offered to pay Moore's salary.

It is understood that this move by Stelling is not being done to undermine Bates but to simply improve Hartlepool's chances of surivival.

Currently Bates has the support of the club's top brass and is set the take charge of his second game in the national league against Aldershot this Saturday looking to halt a run of just one win in 14 games in all competitions.
