Newcastle miss out on keeper target

Newcastle set to miss out on long term target as keeper nears Milan move, Rafael Benitez looks set to be dealt a summer transfer blow in early March as Rafa looks set to miss out on goalkeeper Pepe Reina as he nears a move to Italian giants AC Milan.

Reina who was signed by Benitez during his time at Liverpool is a free agent at the end of the season when his current three-year deal at Napoli expires.

Benitez would have been confident of striking up at deal for the Spanish shot stopper, however it now seems Benetiz will have to concede defeat.

According to Tuttosport in Italy AC Milan have emerged as the front runner to sign Reina and a two-year deal with the option of a third is on the table.

It is though Reina is being brought in to provide competition for current number one Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Newcastle now seem likely to make Martin Dubravka's loan move from Sparta Prague permanent in the summer, but Benitez is still looking at other goalkeeping options one of those was Reina.

However, Benitez was very humble when asked about the possible summer transfer.

“Would I take him to Newcastle if he left? I respect Napoli, as that’s where he is, and our club has a lot of goalkeepers who are doing well." said Benitez.
