Pulis does love playing away: How has life been for Pulis at Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough appointed Tony Pulis on Boxing Day and the fans have seen a different side of their team compared to earlier in the season under former manager Gary Monk.

Since being in charge results and performances have been improving especially away from The Riverside as Middlesbrough have picked up two victories on the road from their last three games.

The first coming at Deepdale after taking an early lead through defender Daniel Ayala Pulis saw his side trailing at half-time.

Pulis made two changes in the break with Rudy Gestede and Patrick Bamford coming on, and a great second half performance saw Boro walk away with three points and a 3-2 win.

The result was needed as a confidence boost after Pulis suffered defeat in his first match in charge when Aston Villa came to The Riverside and left with all the points thanks to a goal from Robert Snodgrass.

In his second game away from home Pulis's Boro side managed to comfortabley see off Ian Holloways QPR side.

With goals from Daniel Ayala, George Friend and Adama Traore Middlesbrough were able to bag a great 3-0 win with a solid performance at Loftus Road.

However his home record has not been the same, with two wins from six in all competitions Pulis's side are looking more uncomfortable in front of their fans than they are on the road.

Villa at home was an unsuccessful start for Pulis's life in the North-East, but Pulis was able to get his first win in front of the loyal Boro fans who saw their side knock North-East rivals Sunderland out of the FA Cup.

But just a week later Boro suffered a heavy defeat to fellow play-off hopefuls Fulham who picked up a 1-0 win at The Riverside thanks to a late penalty from Oliver Norwood.

In his next outing at The Riverside Pulis saw his side crash out of the FA Cup as Boro hosted Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion, a late goal after George Friend's clearance fired in off Glen Murray and this was enough to see Boro fall to another home defeat under Pulis.

After back to back home defeats Pulis then saw his side draw at home to struggling Sheffield Wednesday.

Pulis picked up his first league win as Boro manager against Reading last weekend, thanks to two goals from winger Adama Traore.

So far under Pulis Boro are improving all the time and look to be a late contender for the play-offs as the teams above them are starting to drop points.

All he needs to do is make his Middlesbrough side tough to beat at home and score more and they will be hoping for a trip to Wembley at the end of the season.
