Boreham Wood vs Gateshead Preview
The Heed look to make it back to back wins when they travel to Hertfordshire to face promotion chasing Boreham Wood this Saturday, both sides come into this match on the back of wins in their last outings.
The Heed won 1-0 away at struggling Guiseley, while Boreham Wood won 2-0 away to Eastleigh to solidify their playoff spot.
Looking at the form guide Boreham Wood come into this game in the better form, the Hertfordshire outfit have lost just won of there previous five league games and have kept four clean sheets in a row in all competitions.
As for Gateshead their form has been indifferent of late, although they have lost just won of there last five National League games.
Gateshead manager Steve Watson was full of praise for this week’s opponents Boreham Wood and their manager Luke Garrard:
“I like the way they play and I like the philosophy of the manager, teams have gone up from this league prior to this playing a good brand of football, Forest Green would be one, Lincoln were another who were very hard to beat last season”. Said Watson.
Boreham Wood manager is out for a bit of revenge this weekend after his side were dumped out of the FA trophy losing 2-1 to Gateshead back in January:
“We have obviously played them twice recently in the FA Trophy.
"Up at their place, I felt that up until the 75th minute, we were very comfortable.
"Returning here, there was McLaughlin’s great effort to level at 1-1, and then the individual error that got them the win, that is something that we have looked at and spoken about”. Said Garrard.
Gateshead manager Steve Watson will make a late decision on the fitness of defenders Fraser Kerr and Neil Byrne.
The pair who missed the 1-0 win over Guiseley on Tuesday hadn’t trained as of Thursday and manager Watson said he would need another day to assess the pair before deciding on their availability for Saturday’s fixture.
Bar these two doubts due to Watson having a full squad at his disposal.
As for Boreham Wood they have no fresh injury concerns going into this week’s fixture.
New signing Morgan Ferrier came off the bench to feature in Wood’s last game at Eastleigh, so is in contention to start here.
Although Gateshead picked up a good away win in midweek its tough to see them replicating that here.
Boreham Wood possess a lot of quality with the likes of Bruno Andrade in midfield I could see him being the difference maker here seeing Boreham Wood pick up the 3 points just.
Luke's Prediction: Boreham Wood 2-1 Gateshead.
