Contract extension for Paul Dummett at St James Park

Paul Dummett signed new deal at St James Park yesterday and hopes to become a key part of a solid Newcastle defence for years to come.

The local lad who has supported the club since a young age has signed a new deal which will keep the 26-year-old left-back at the club until the summer 2022.

If he remains at the club until the end of his new contract that will take Dummett to 19 years of service at Newcastle after joining the club at just nine years-old.

Dummett who has already racked up over 100 apperances for the club spoke to NUFC TV:

“It's my boyhood club and I've been a supporter for many years so to extend my stay at the club for even longer is really important to me.

"I've always wanted to stay here and the manager and the club have wanted to keep me so I'm really pleased to have signed the new contract and hopefully there are many more years to come."

Dummett has become a regular in the Newcastle team since making his debut back in January 2013, especially last year as he was a key part of Rafa Benitez's promotion winning squad.

“If you talk about players that are important for the team, normally people talk about goalscorers, midfielders and number tens but in modern football, there are not too many consistent left-sided full-backs.

“Paul is exactly that; he understands the game and you know what you can expect from him week in, week out. That’s important when you have a lot of big games. He’s a player you can trust." Said Benitez.

Do you think that Dummett has a future at Newcastle and will he keep his place in the defence over the coming years, please comment and let us know what you think.
