Hartlepool keep hold of star man Woods on deadline day

Stevenage and Exeter City were both denied access to in-demand 27 year-old midfielder, Michael Woods as Hartlepool held off interest in the transfer window.

No cash fee was actually placed from either clubs for the ex-Chelsea player, both wanting the player on a free transfer.

Releasing Woods would have freed up more of the wage budget after losing players such as Jonathan Franks, Nicky Deverdics and Tomi Adeloye but manager Craig Harrison refused to let their star man go, hoping to use him in the clubs relegation battle.

Pools had already received £10,000 in a transfer fee as they let Nicky Deverdics depart for fellow Conaference side, Wrexham, who sit in the play-offs in 3rd place.

A club statement issued: “The club would like to wish Nicky every success in his future career.”
